Historical and Spiritual Importance

According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Yamuna is the daughter of Surya Dev (Sun God) and sister of Yama, the God of Death. It is believed that visiting Yamunotri and taking blessings from Goddess Yamuna protects devotees from untimely death and brings spiritual purity.

The Yamunotri Temple was originally built by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal and is one of the most important temples in the Char Dham Yatra.
